Overtime music videos have changed due to the increase in successful technology and the releasing of new technology. New techniques and ideas have been used overtime. Newer videos generally have better quality videos overtime then older videos due to technology change. However technology such as cutting and effects added are used a lot in older videos but they are over used, maybe due to the excitement of new technology coming out. Newer videos use more discrete technology and only for the purpose of the music video. In most of the music videos there is usually the artist singing. However when an artist is not seen singing the video usually corresponds showing a story. Also older music videos did not feature many coloured people whereas newer videos shows different kinds of people.

CLC Brentford

Our class had a trip to Brentford Media Centre where we began developing skills for our A2 coursework which will start soon. We learnt about different camera shots and angles and tried to make these shots our self using a video camera. We experimented in pairs on how to do this , sometimes using a tripod so the camera was still and not shaky when hand held. We also looked at existing short films that were already made and analysed them. We tried to spot the different shots used throughout the films.

LO: Develop understanding of codes and conventions of music videos

The Animals: The House of the Rising Sun
This music video was made in 1964 being one the of earliest music videos
-All the members of the band are wearin the same outfit: grey suit and yellow shirt. The yellow represents the sun
- The music video is only showing the band playing their song. Compared to Micheal Jackson and Janet Jackson: Scream; this is very simple as scream's video has alot more meaning and has different settings.
- The camera focuses alot on the main singer when he is singing with a closeup shot of his face
- The main focus is the band, that is all that the camera films
- There are a lot of shots such as close-up, medium shots and long shots
